There's an elliptical shadow on the moon that wasn't there before. Spotted (no pun intended) it a few months ago. Beautiful moon.
And here's me:

anybody able to pull some words of wisdom from this review of my book in literature critic?
http://www.literaturkritik.de/public/rezension.php?rez_id=12011&ausgabe=200807
altavista does not count. though it's always funny to see four people posting the exact same bablefish translation prepended with "well, my german is a bit rusty, but here's my shot at it...."
oh, there's news, there's news. this week i hope to get a chance to write stuff down.

| Kirkcaldy, Scotland |
[23 Jul 2008|10:23pm] |
Hi, all. I'm new to this community, and I come bearing pictures from a recent family trip to the seaside town of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, where a few of my ancestors are from. It's no tropical Carribean beach, but it's beautiful in its own way.

(Unfortunate news, too, but that HEADLINE!)
In cuter news: Adorable baby bats - honestly - snuggled in wool at animal shelter
My work on the Iowa Public Radio Pronouncing Dictionary finally went up on the IPR website. (I did the Corrections and Addenda pages.) Yay! I felt really nervous monkeying around on their FTP server, though. It scares me to be trusted with that much power! What if I pressed the wrong button and deleted the whole internet!? Anyway, my supervisor made almost no changes to my pages. He only deleted one word in one of the sentences in my unfortunate rambling Baroque style, added my name to the tops of the pages, and changed "Errata" to "Corrections" so it didn't sound as accusing. I think I'll still put "Back" links on those two pages, so you can get back to the original dictionary.
It turns out one of my coworkers at the radio station studied Russian for eight years and taught it at the University. Who knew? So I have been speaking in Russian to him when I meet him in the halls, and he's an American so he's pretty patient with my terrible grammar and my groping for vocabulary and case endings. It's fun! I missed speaking it. Hope I do well enough on the placement test to make it into Second Year.

I have always loved taking photos in a cemetery. I am always very careful not to disturb anyone or anything there. I respect graveyards in a sense I guess, and I think everyone should. Here is one photo that was taken of me in a graveyard.

I like how this picture came out blurry. It gives it a sense of eeriness to it

[23 Jul 2008|09:14pm] |
Hi all.
Just joined this community by sheer chance. I really enjoy photographing cemeteries whenever I have the chance to. I prefer the older ones as they seem to have more of a character then the recent flat stoned ones. The photo I have posted here I was by random occurrence told by a passerby that it had been used as a booze hold during prohibition. You can maybe see where they had sealed the once removable screws to the secret booze vault.

There was a point of last summer. Where all my friends did was look up online to find the most haunted places around Buffalo, Ny. Or even new york since we were willing to travel. We went to places like Delaware road, and pig man road. Roads that were suppose to be haunted. We went to psych wards to take pictures and as much as people made a big deal about them, we really felt nothing and we were beginning to think it was a hoax. We went to Devils hole, this huge gorge down in Niagra falls. Where the hike is seriously a death trip. We felt presence there. What happened there was an attack on the idians and people claim for this huge hole in the gorge was haunted and we could believe them. But as much as I traveled with my camera and took pictures. We didn't catch anything on photos. We were all disappointed but there was this cemetery called goodleburg. Every one talks about this cemetery over here. They claim for it to be haunted, and with my pictures. I do believe them:( Read more... )
Enjoy :) Im excited to hear all about your journeys.

Check out the pictures my friend and I took at a Lowell Mass cemetery in May. http://naufragio-bello.livejournal.com/tag/cemetery
I love the Lion. He is supposedly the gaurdian of "Witch Bonnie" whose dress (although cast in metal) seems to get lower every year.

i found this community just a few moments ago and would like to introduce myself. i'm civillove and i'm around 17 years old. i have been taking cemetery photos since i was 13. my uncle is the one who really got me into photography and i realized graveyards was one of the many things that fascinated me. i love taking pictures of the statues or stained glass the most and the beautiful architectural crypts always show up nicely in black and white photos. i'm gonna share a few :] it's not my best work, to say the least. its with a digital camera because it was all i had that day. i'm more of an old camera type of person and enjoy developing photos in a dark room...so... *shrugs* :]

| Remains of the Subletters |
[23 Jul 2008|06:33pm] |
Written on letterhead from the Gladstone Hotel: 'Whitehouse meats - St. Lawrence Market or Bayview Streets'.
The ghost of the subletters are found in every corner, their smell hangs stubbornly in the air, the layered spice of two women and their sex in the summer. They sealed all the windows when they left and the staleness has settled into the fabrics. Half a can of Long Island Iced Tea sits in the fridge, next to a new packet of instant pork sauce and a chocolate muffin mix. The plants are all dead and the cut flowers are covered in a chalky white fungus, their vases lined with something squishy and green. In every corner lays a new mystery. Could the can of air freshener in the bathroom be related to the mysterious way all my clothes now smell of tacos? The old things are slightly askew. And the new things are curious. The kitchen table is covered in sugar packets, stacked edge to edge, seemingly stolen from every coffee joint in town. A large sealed bowl of plain white sugar has been placed adjacent. The liquor bottles are a little lower, but the tub has never been so clean. I'm find it slightly thrilling to find evidence of the secrets they've uncovered. The jewelry box turned backwards, the rearrangement of coats in the closet, the shifting of books in the second drawer.
I spent the afternoon unpacking and trying not to sleep with my body so used to resting in the other world's night. It's good to be back.

[23 Jul 2008|04:53pm] |
I'm new here, and this is my first post, so if I'm breaking any rules, please let me know. I live in New England, and am fascinated by the colonial history in my backyard. Hence my fascination with colonial gravestones.
